They are short staffed now. I signed a ton of paperwork for a delivery driver position. I once got a new job and I had to put two weeks notice at my old job but potential employer told me they need me back in a week, they’d not wait two weeks. Luckily my previous place agreed to let me go.

When they need you, they need you. So I could see how they could say if you can’t start, they’ll look for someone else
