The update here is that my wife tripped over the cat about two months ago. She landed really hard and bruised a bone but didn't break it.

Surgeon opened up the hematoma to release the pressure and drain it, but the skin tore easily into about a 3" gash. And so I'm back to doing wound care.

I'm having fun at work learning mechanical design. Turns out there are free versions of a lot of the major programs we use, so I can work on fundamentals on my home computer.
