Of course you can ask my age, I’m 52 and didn’t start running until I was 40 years old. As a youngster I always thought (told myself/was told) I was bad at all sports and running. Wrong. I just couldn’t do sprinting, I could do longer distance I found - did several half marathons in my 40s. Saying all this not to brag but to give you encouragement. 40s are a great time to focus on fitness and health, once our families are a little bit more grown.
