I don't know much about how Sec. 8 works (I think you have it?) but where I worked in home health there were several apartment complexes for Sec 8 that were extremely nice. I remember one in particular that was set up for people with impaired mobility; it even had a built in wood shower chair with an accessible shower. That one was super nice but there were a couple others I remember that were quite accessible.

I don't know if that is available elsewhere but if you could find it it sounds like it would really help you.
