I think it's because at the same time I'm trying to justify myself/thoughts/feelings/behaviors and it helps if I can get someone else on my side.
If I had a different T I couldn't convince of half the crap I do now, I guess it would depend on how he/she approached it. I'd probably at least feel invalid and like a failure though.
