I'm not really a fan of those either. Didn't really want to have them for my own wedding, then baby, but I gave in. I just insisted that I be alerted to the date in advance--I didn't want a surprise (as an introvert, I do better being able to prepare for social situations, especially one where I'd be the center of attention).
I was informed about the family and friends baby showers (thanks, H!). I figured out the bridal shower because my best friend at the time was in town and being weird about some plans we'd made to go somewhere (out to lunch maybe?). Like, "Actually, let's not do that. Let's just go to [our friend] L's house instead." I was right. I did insist that we not play any stupid games.
Hope the event is bearable and goes well. You're being a good sibling organizing it. At least all the focus should be on your sister.
