Sadly, there’s still a frightening amount of misogyny in the world. I don’t read Quora, but I see plenty of other examples throughout the rest of the media, whether it’s social media or the news media. I think the news media thrive on division and hatred - and my impression is that they particularly love to post anything that causes gender division.
The popularity of people like Andrew Tate shocks me to my core. I just don’t understand where his base of followers come from. It makes me wonder what kind of homes some of these young men are growing up in that attracts them to this kind of misogynistic, abusive, woman-hating behaviour.
I grew up with a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, and bigoted father, and I never ever understood where his hatred and beliefs came from. As a teenager it scared me to death, but as an adult I always challenged his behaviour. I think all anyone can do is challenge this behaviour when they come across it.
I honestly believe that only education can change this, but it does need the wider media to get on board with this. It doesn’t help, of course, when some of the most powerful men in the world don’t lead the way - America has just elected one of the worst examples of a misogynist that there ever could be - so this kind of sets the tone and, rather sadly, the acceptance of this horrendous behaviour.
