A friend of mine managed entry level food service staff for ten years. She said it was a common request for an immediate answer for time off, shift change, etc. she told me any immediate answer is always a “no”. If you let me think about it, maybe there’s a solution., but an immediate answer is No.

That just popped into my mind here
