I understand your point about those cultures. I was once an office mate with an Indian man who literally had to go on a three month disability leave because of his depression that followed the divorce. It was at a high tech company in Silicon Valley and his wife took their three year old child and went to Michigan to pursue a PhD program by herself. He told me that in their culture such was a complete taboo. It appeared that the rejection by the community was more stressful to him than being separated from his daughter. But then again, it was in 2008. It is now 2025. Cultural mores change, too.
