Sunday we had about 4 inches of snow. Cote had fun running, playing & exploring the edge of the woods. Sunday night we got 1/4" of ice on top of that (our not so little ice storm). Then Monday morning we got another 2 " of snow on top of the ice.
My truck was sitting just outside my garage door & Cote & I always go outside through the kitchen garage door, then I open the garage door for him to run out. Yesterday afternoon he got almost to the garage door & saw my big snow covered truck sitting there. He ran back to my side so quickly & sat there refusing to move & wanted back inside the house. I gave him a few minutes then said.....ok, lets go out. As soon as he realized I was ok & was going out too, he headed for out the garage door.
THEN he stepped on the crunchy snow/ice/snow sandwich & jumped straight in the air. It wasn't the same white fluffy stuff he walked through the day before & all the bushes that had been up in the air were now hanging down to the ground covered in ice. Oh my gosh, his world was nothing like he experienced in his previous 20 mo of life.
One run around the truck to know nothing was going to get him & he was off & playing in the white stuff crunching under his feet, tearing up the snowy ice chunks chasing them around the snow like he does rocks & bricks only these he could really chew on.
He did a bound down the hill to see if he could grab one of the ice covered branches that had fallen out of a tree while mom was going around taking ice photos & videos of my crazy Cote having the time of his life.
About 20 minutes out, mom, even with her down coat, alpaca hat, snow boots & mittens was FREEZING. All I had to say was "lets go inside & warm up" & Cote ran for the kitchen door wanting in. Guess he had enough of the cold too. So much for potty walk though.....too many fun distractions.
I laugh cause he barks at everything that goes by on the road in front of my farm.....except the snow plow. They have been busy on our road keeping it cleared & salted.
Having dogs gets me out to play in the snow too & thar makes snow fun & an experience, not just something to look at & Cote is so entertaining.
An aside story about him....he was getting stressed because my cats get my bedroom & I gated my dogs out. Well, Cote just jumps over the gate so I put obstacles in back of that & he just jumped over them too. So I still keep the gate closed but he can jump in whenever he wants & will sleep next to me while Gabe (kitty) sleeps next to me on my pillow. Giving Cote this freedom, he has become a lot less stressed. Sometimes I find him sleeping on the bedroom floor or even on the floor outside tge gate....but since it is now his choice, he is a lot more calm about everything. It's all in finding what works rather than trying to force something to work when it comes to Aussies.
It's fun being on a FB group of other Aussie owners. It's cool realizing that some of his quirky behaviors are the same as other Aussies. I laugh so hard when he has something he knows he shouldn't have....he comes to me then curls his rear end around & backs up to me. I had no idea this was an Aussie "thing" & not just my crazy boy until others posted about theirs doing it too. He is definitely the most entertaining dog I have ever had. He is velcro yet independent at the same time. Can't imagine life withour him
