I hated mirtazpine! I was prescribed the brand name (Remeron) a long time ago. It was my first psychiatric med, and I didn't know about the side effects. Also, I was recovering from an eating disorder and in truth needed to gain weight, but not so rapidly and not that way, by never EVER feeling full no matter how much I ate. All I wanted to do on it was eat and sleep. 45 mg was the same as the lower dose for me, no difference.

The result ended up being, I stopped taking it without the pdoc's consent. I don't even know that it helped my depression any as I was so depressed about the rapid weight gain and being sleepy all the time.

As a side note, when my cat was recovering from a long-running wasting fungus, the vet prescribed her a medication to improved her appetite. It was a transdermal version of mirtazpine (rubbed on the inside of the outer ear flap). The instructions actually warned to wear gloves while administering lest it absorb into your system. My cat started eating tons on it, and we stopped it once she started getting her weight back up and eating on her own without the med.
