Maybe yes, maybe no? If you're starving, I don't see how you can still put on 30 lb.? Maybe? I know starving yourself DOES slow down your metabolism. I had a horrible time getting my metabolism going recovering from the worst bout of anorexia I had in college. When I gained the weight back, it came on rapidly and was distributed weirdly. Took a good 6 months, maybe more for things to level out.
I DO know that one of the best ways to maintain a healthy weight is to eat regular meals and snacks whether you feel like it or not. Obviously a healthy, balanced diet is important, and it is not good to consume empty calories on drinks like soda, frappucinos, etc and junk food. Exercise, too, helps boost your metabolism.
