Sometimes fiction does a great job at this, it has an ability to circumvent some of the resistance that often meets exploration.
Although not fiction, difficult relationships with fathers is a common topic in American indigenous writers, I would recommend Richard Wagamese, For Joshua is one such title as is Medicine Walk.
