@Crazy Hitch cold sores are usually more defined bubbly blisters and impetigo looks more like a crusty rash. From my experience cold sores tend to hurt more before/when they first appear, and impetigo looks grosser, so hugs to your son either way!

I think impetigo is more contagious too, at least once it starts oozing. In grade school I had to be sent home for impetigo but they didn't care if I had a cold sore as long as I wasn't kissing anyone haha
