Yeah but undereating often will then either lead to binge eating or an ED, and it is God-awful hard to recover from an ED or consistent undereating, when you start eating normally your metabolism is slowed so you regain weight rapidly not to mention weirdly all over. Regaining from my lowest weight (and longest period of bad eating habits), it took 6 months to a year to get my metabolism to kick up again, and that was in my 20s!

The point of dieting to to establish HEALTHY eating habits, habits that you can sustain throughout your lifetime, not to mention you want to mirror healthy eating habits to your son as well. Statistics also show that those who lose weight too rapidly are less likely to maintain their healthy weight, so it's a double-edged sword. Not to mention, you've got to have energy to do your job, keep up with your kiddo, etc.

The other thing about exercise is even if you don't lose a large amount of weight, when you are more physically fit, it definitely shows in your body shape. In fact, I remarked to my mom (who has been overweight my entire life) after Christmas if she had been dieting because I thought she looked like she had lost a lot of weight, 25 lb maybe or even more. She told me, no not really, and she'd maybe only lost 5 lb. or so but she HAD started walking 30 min. every day at a brisk pace since I'd last since her the past March. It actually made a HUGE difference in how fit she looks!
