I confronted myself in regards to smoking. I exposed myself to all the literature pointing out the health risks. I grew up poor, and imagined suits and ties having strategy sessions to keep me addicted so they could put their kids through college. It worked. I quit cold turkey. I did have to stop alcohol at the same time, however. I killed 2 birds with one stone. One of the birds came back to life for a while, but I finally put him to rest too. Sadly, I had friends who never made the leap. They expired with tobacco related illness years before their time. It's interesting to see how an addictive substance can literally own someone. For example, if you smoke your last cig at bedtime, I know where you are going first thing in the morning.
