I know it's a couple of months after your questions. I just went though psilocybin, through a trial/study in a hospital.

It was a really great experience and, yes, it changes your brain but in really subtle ways. The experience didn't introduce anything completely new, but it changed my perspective on some things i knew were there but had doubts believing. I also had a very unique, once in a lifetime experience that was completely unexpected and it confirmed something I suspected but had never experienced. I did have to play an active role in that last case but that was more along the lines of acceptance rather than doing something within the experience.

Doing this on a safe and comfortable environment is critical. I cannot overstate this, it makes a huge difference. And I'm not talking about doing it in your bedroom, for example. You need to be with someone whom you trust or who is qualified in case something goes wrong or takes an unexpected turn, which it did in my case. It wasn't serious in the end but could have been really bad. I was grateful to be in a hospital setting with experts on hand who could make decisions and evaluate in the moment.

I'm not trying to scare you. The whole experience was absolutely worth it.

While I don't think it'll make a difference in my outward depression, it made a difference in my inner life which translates to a big boost in my quality of life and helped me see other possibilities.
