I mentioned in another thread that following my seizure, I had an EEG. Since I was a minor, I was excluded from the consultation with the neurologist and got the report 2nd hand from my mother. She said my EEG was normal with one lead off. My EEG was not normal. Why did she lie? I presume it was because one seizure is insufficient to give a diagnosis of epilepsy. If you have a second unprovoked seizure, you can get the diagnosis and there are ramifications as you mention. Probably thought my condition could be interpreted as a result of poor parenting. Couldn't have that. Oh well. It only took me 40 years to sort it all out. Maybe it was for the best after all.
