Spring time is nesting time for wasps. I was a mail carrier for a few years and for a couple of weeks every spring one had to be real careful opening the curb side mail boxes. I have never been stung by a wasp, and I don't find them particularly aggressive.
However, yellow jackets and hornets are a horse of a different color. Last year I was weed whacking and I started getting hit in my legs. I never even saw them. I got out of there as fast as I could after getting hit 5 times. The bites are painful. They swell. Then they itch, and it
takes about two weeks to forget they are there. Two weeks after that incident, I was mowing the lawn in an enclosed are I can't get to with the zero turn mower. I was using a walk behind and it was sunny and very hot. I had just taken off my T-shirt, when I went over an in
ground nest without realizing it. . I turned to run and my legs got twisted up and down I went. They piled on. Back, waist, legs, neck I ran and the bastards chased me around the block. I was miserable for another two weeks. I will be carefully inspecting the areas I intend to mow
this season. They don't pay me enough to do battle with yellow jackets.
