Another update (the previous one was on March 29!):
- Find an employment attorney to review the terms of my termination letter. DONE
- Identify popular skills I might lack and self-train (Python scripting?) IN PROGRESS I'm still teaching myself Python. My application for job training through the DOL was accepted, but I haven't started training yet.
- Apply for jobs IN PROGRESS -- ongoing
- Network IN PROGRESS -- ongoing
- Total up the dollar amount of the severance DONE
- Figure out insurance matters DONE
- NEW: Use the legal plan to create a will and an estate before I lose the benefit. CANCEL I think that benefit lapsed on my last day of employment. So that's over.
- Think of more stuff to do and write that down IN PROGRESS -- ongoing
In the "more stuff to do" category, I've reached out to the Social Services and submitted an application for "SNAP." While doing that, I requested a few more benefits. I'd like to see if my wife can get some compensation for her disability, such as: a reduction in property tax; a stipend for a home health aid; additional medical benefits; whatever else.
I actually got the SNAP card in the mail within a week of applying, even before getting approved.
Even more "more stuff to do" involves taking as many job search workshops as I can. Aside from learning stuff, each workshop counts as a "work search effort" so there's one less job I need to apply to.
