There are people who would jump on it simply because it looks like a weak point or an insecurity, and they take advantage. Not that it should concern me but it would be efficient to have a line ready to put a rude person in their place.

I do this if I’m having conversation that is particularly important to me, e.g. with a health care professional, or someone who’s going to be providing a service to me.
I don’t see this as a sign of weakness, I see it as a means of ensuring there is effective and clear communication.
