A DVT is usually below the knee in the calf. A torn meniscus is a funny animal.(not literally). You can tear it without even knowing it, then wake up the next day with a swollen knee which radiates pain.
I tore mine a year ago. The swelling and pain went away after 6 weeks, but I still can't walk up or down the stairs like I used to. I had the DVT also. Following an initial hospitalization, I had residual swelling,
which is normal, but the physicians in training panicked and ordered surgery. I disagreed with that treatment plan and insisted on being seen by the cardiologist. He came in and said he had evaluated both
my ultrasounds and I had made excellent progress. The swelling was harmless. He discharged me when the transporter was at my door to take me to surgery. My advice? Stay away from physicians in training.
Avoid hospitals if you can.
