I have just finished Elyn Saks' memoir and plugged her name in the search box on this site and found this thread. Elyn Saks makes a point of explaining that her schizophrenia symptoms were all positive. She does not have negative symptoms. She is not withdrawn, with flat affect. etc. She has been able to build lifelong friendships. I wonder if negative symptoms, typical of many people with schizophrenia, make them appear less intelligent than they are. They do not shine, because of the negative symptoms.
