Facing a dilemma: most times I focus on learning just what I need to solve my challenge and bump along. But yesterday I found a college had posted about 2 dozen tutorials on iMovie. Do I locate only the one I need and finish my project or do I take the time today to "go to school" and look at all the tutorials and note their topics for later reference.
One way through is :: start watching the tutorials in order and when I get to the one that solves my challenge go ahead and make the edits. Then continue watching the series tomorrow.

This is almost exactly what Barbara Sher's Scanner Daybook is for. Recall that as we're working on a project, we might have (okay, will have) ideas for other projects. But those ideas are "intrusive" and get in the way of the main project. So we write about these ideas briefly in the SDB and then move back to whatever it was we were doing before.
