Valerian helps reduce anxiety. The only problem is that it can cause drowsiness and it smells like dirty socks. It's been one of the most widely used anti-anxiety remedies for thousands of years.
I use Skullcap myself, a potent brand which produces a nice relaxed feeling. I take it on an as needed basis and it also makes a good substitute for alcohol. It's been said though that it has sometimes in the past been tainted with another herb which is known to harm the liver, so I only by from more well known sources.
