I would have to disagree, I think his performance as Mohamad Ali was superb (I think he was nominated for an oscar on that one), his acting in legend was also excellent ( he basically had to carry 90 percent of the film by himself.)

I think his performance depends on the material but you are right that he does gain a lot of audience sympathy because he packs an undenible charisma
