Psychotherapy is entirely what you make out of it. Most people benefit from psychotherapy, if they go into session with a willing and open mind (and a willingness and honest desire to change). People who don't benefit from it either have a lousy therapist, may be 'stuck' in their life somehow, or were somehow coerced into psychotherapy care. Some also don't benefit from it because it simply doesn't work for them (just like not all meds work for all people).
While it's okay to vent a little here, I don't like to see anyone bashing or simplifying anyone's profession or livelihood just because they've had a negative experience with it. It's disrespectful and it's not appropriate to a support community such as this.
Best,
DocJohn
