Some people do well with lithium (or as someone suggested, Lamictal) augmenting the antidepressant.

Have you been on Effexor?

Cipramil was ok for me. I did well during the whole time I was on it. But we all react differently to different meds, so don't give up. (the lab rat feeling is rather queer )
