Absolutely. You are not alone. I have struggled with overeating and eating to cope with anxiety for along time but have only recently been brave enough to really try to address the underlying issues in therapy. I am working on owning my feelings and recognizing whether I am actually hungry or anxious, bored, etc. It is truly an addiction like any other. One word of caution about weight loss surgery is that I have met several people who have had the surgery and then (when they couldn't overeat as much because of the surgery) developed a replacement addiction, especially alcoholism. Surgery have definitely helped alot of people, but know all the risk factors and know that those of us with this problem ultimately have to figure out how to deal with our feelings no matter what else we do to lose weight. There are some great books on coping with anxiety that can augment therapy well. Also, ask your therapist if he/she is able to help you with anxiety reduction skills training.
