50’s guy – that is awesome! We had a similar thing happen to us (although we were on the receiving end). Many years ago my husband and I were experiencing some serious financial problems. A friend of his approached him and said “I know there’s something wrong and I can help you if you wish.” Hubby said he was fine etc. A couple weeks later he said “I don’t want to embarrass you, but I know you need help right now and I can help you.” Hubby said “thanks, but I can’t do that.”

This wonderful man went to his bank the next day and handed my husband a paper sack full of cash. We are very much like vetswife and don’t mind helping, but don’t do well with receiving. Through the years we have attempted many times to pay this man back. He wouldn’t take a penny. He said “I have more than enough money to last me the rest of my life, it was a gift, while that money seems like a great amount to you, I don’t miss it a bit. You’re good people that hit a rough spot, I am just happy you allowed me the privilege to help.”

His only condition on the gift is that we were not allowed to tell people about it. He wanted to help those people that he deemed worthy without being bombarded with loan requests.
