I got carpet fleas once and a flea bomb took care of 'em. Just picked one up from the supermarket. I only needed one to do my house, but some people need two of them. You are meant to cover food surfaces with newspaper and cover bedding (e.g., with plastic or something) then you just set the bomb off and evacuate the house for a day.

I found it kept flies and cockroaches etc at bay for a good 6 months.

I was wary about using it. Thought that the place would feel all filled with chemicals, but I was surprised that it didn't and I didn't notice any traces. You are meant to pick up clutter first, though, and vaccum after.

I'm not sure how convenient it would be to evacuate the place overnight.
