Angel, I am on my second therapist. I saw the first one for less than a year. She helped me somewhat on some things, like getting more sleep (I was totally exhausted due to lack of sleep). At some point, I reached the limit of her skill set and there seemed to be nothing further she could do to help me move forward. So I stopped seeing her. I didn't actively seek out another therapist, but one fell into my lap who was just right for me and who had a different theoretical approach, a broader skill set, and was especially experienced in the areas I needed help in.
So for me, I needed someone who could really help me, and help me heal, so that was why I got someone new. I cannot imagine ever seeing another therapist than the one I have. When I finish therapy with him, I will see no one else.
Angel, are you feeling like you are ready to move on from your current therapist?
