Yeah... It is probably worth getting the doc to run some tests to try and figure the cause of your irregularity. Treating that directly (if possible) might allow you to conceive more readily than you otherwise would (if / when the time comes that you want to have kids).

There are a variety of reasons for irregularity.

I have an irregular cycle sometimes. I'm not 100% sure about this - but I think it has something to do with the egg having trouble travelling down the fallopian tube. It gets stuck (hence cramps around ovulation). The more that happens... The more stuck eggs prevent the next egg making it to the womb. So... The solution (for me) is to go on the pill (which prevents the release of the egg). That way... Less stuck eggs mean that if / when I'm trying to conceive the more likely it is that an egg will make it down ok to be fertilized...

Though... I'm not sure that that is the cause of irregular cycles... Worth finding out, though.
