I do something like this. I have a smooth stone from a favorite place (a nearby beach which is a favorite place for me). I keep it in my pocket. When I am in difficult situations, I can reach into my pocket and think of being at my favorite place - both mentally, and also through the feelings in my fingers as I hold the cool, smooth stone. In fact, I have multiple smooth stones in different locations, in two jackets, in my purse,and in my backpack. They come in handy! I hope it proves helpful for you too. It has really helped me out a lot. It's one of the best ideas that has helped me calm myself in a variety of stressful situations.
