I won't jump in on your rationalization for the skates. However, you said your parents reduced your rent so you could afford a therapist, and that is what you need to do. It sounds like you and your folks have agreed you need to see a therapist, and to help yourself and honor your parents, that's what the "right" answer is, imo.

There's nothing wrong with saving a little money each week until you have enough to buy those skates. Things planned and waited for are much more fun!
