I had irregular periods my whole life until I started taking a thyroid medicine. I used to sometimes only have three or four periods a year, except when I was on birth control pills. I always tested within the normal range for thyroid functioning, but it was the high end of normal. A doctor who was covering for my usual doc suggested I try a low dose of Synthroid to see if I felt better, depression-wise, with a lower TSH level. I was amazed to have regular periods for the first time in my life off the pill.

So if you haven't had your thyroid checked, see if your doc will check it. If your TSH is at the high end of the range, and you experience mild symptoms of hypothyroidism or have depression, you might ask your doc about trying to boost your thyroid.

Good luck,

gg
