Could have been the very high amount of caffeine in the Mountain Dew too. (In the U.S., Mountain Dew is loaded with caffeine).
At any rate, I'm very glad you are feeling better.
I agree with Perna, add some water or switch / substitute: one soda, then one nice glass of water--it is so good for you. And when you stop smoking, it is highly recommended that you increase your water intake to help get all the nictotine out of your system quickly!
I do not like bottled water or refrigerated or iced water (don't even think about throwing a dirty old lemon slice in there!! lol), so I have a pitcher at home on my kitchen counter and a pitcher at work at my desk full of tap water readily available. Recently I froze some cranberry/blueberry juice in ice cube trays and they make a pretty and tasty addition to a nice glass of water
