For me, sometimes just someone being nice to me will help. But first, I have to talk to people. That's hard to do when depressed because most depressed people isolate from others.
Sometimes, I do fun things and not worry about things. That's hard to do whenever depressed because of lack of energy and motivation.
Ozzie is right about taking SMALL STEPS. But also, you need to recognize what your positive things are that you have accomplished. Don't discount the small steps you do take. Every one of them makes a difference.
Pets also help. If you have any pets, make sure you play with them more when you are depressed. For me, this is always my first small step in feeling better. I struggle with grabbing and throwing toys as I play with my two kitty cats. Moving helps get me more active.
