Can you take any over-the-counter pain relievers, like Aleve (naproxen sodium) or Motrin? That would might help reduce inflammation. In addition to the salt-water rinses, drinking warm liquids like chicken soup or broth may help. Using a vaporizer may help also; if you are having congestion (which is a possibility if your ears are hurting) it will make it easier for the drainage to pass. My good friend, who is a nurse, swears by using the vaporizer.... Alternatively, taking hot showers, even a couple of times a day, might be useful if you're not using a vaporizer, to get the advantage of the steam.
Hope you start feeling better as soon as possible.
Take care,
Erin
