I had to spend some time downtown outside one particularly cold morning. I wore my favorite frigid weather scarf - very warm, and it was made to cover the head/ears.

On the way home, I noticed a woman at the exit ramp asking for change. She wore a flimsy coat and no hat on her head. I didn't have any money with me, but I took off my scarf and gave it to her (my hair and the scarf were clean).

Several weeks later I'm riding in the car with my husband, about a couple of miles from that exit. I see the same woman trudging along with her bag, wearing my scarf.

I felt bad she had to live out on the streets, but at least I knew her ears were warm - felt good.
