Yep, all the time. We just zone out, don't know what happens. Generally it's short enough for us to just say, "Come again?" in a conversation - or if we're having a conversation in which we want to come off as intelligent, we say "Hmm... Could you please state that in a different way?" so maybe the person we're talking to thinks we want them to clarify their position rather than restate it because we were off in No-where-land. LOL. I don't think we're fooling anybody, though...
Before, I thought it was just the ADD. But now that I know more about dissociation...
Some days are worse than others. On the worse days, we try to keep in mind that it's going to happen. Sometimes that helps. Most of the time, though... *Shrug.* We lose a lot of objects, so whenever an object is important, we put it in a place we can't get to easily and return it to that place as soon as possible.
Really frustrating, though, is when you haven't lost something or don't not know something because you're drawing a blank, but because it's really just lost. Like when you think you just zoned out and maybe somebody just said something, but it turns out they didn't say anything at all, or you think you must have done something with your keys, but they fell out of your pocket and slid into the couch cushions. You start thinking that everything fell out of your head in the numb moment, but really, you can figure it out if you just trust what you DO remember.
It's confusing stuff. I just try to laugh at it when I can. There are times when it's really frustrating, but frustration almost never helps, so I try to move on to something else for a while. Unfortunately, neither of those things are always possible...
