I agree with what kimmy said above. I think trying to make sense of it is normal. Sometimes when in a triggered state we have to let it go until later and just focus on doing all we can to keep ourselves safe.
I think not going to your appointment (the dentist is soooooooo scary for me) and not driving right now are good ideas. It sounds like you have very good instincts to keep yourselves safe.
When triggered I cannot even drive the under ten miles to my therapist's office. As much as it could help I know my limits and driving in a triggered state is beyond what I can handle.
