Reading your post makes me sad. I am so sorry he reacted that way.

I've come to believe that people respond to our mental health issues because of their ignorance, selfishness or fears. They react out of their baggage or immaturity. I believe some of the people I told first thought was more about how this news affected them than how it affected me. Would I still be able to meet THEIR needs if this was true? Would I get all the attention now? Would THEY have to do something for me for a change?

Maybe some of my bitterness is seeping out here but I had some Bozos in my life too.

What I had to learn was how to discern safe people from the unsafe. Their degree of self-centeredness and self-absorption was a huge clue.
