Hate to say it but: if no caffeine, then a freezing cold shower. Kind of miserable, yes, but then afterwards you are awake (and feeling warm).
Also, peppermint (for example, in tea) is supposed to make you more alert. Jury's still out for me on that one, though.
Anyone else have non-coffee ideas? I'd like to hear them, too.
