It depends on the breed. Golden retrievers are good indoor dogs & they are big.....but you get a very active dog in a 1 room appartment & you will be going crazy with it's energy. You might want to think about a medium size dog.
I can tell you as a voice of experience. I have 6 american eskimo dogs in my huge house & they are constantly messing if I miss a potty walk by a few minutes. I have potty papers on the floor for the ones that are continually with me. When they hit the edge, more goes under than above & ends up messing up the floor more than if I didn't use the paper. The puppy pens I have the a couple of the others in....catch the messes with them, but even that has to be cleaned up often with the smell. Then there's Chinook.....I have him in a gated area in the back porch/kitchen area. When he has to go....he jumps the gate as he refuses to mess in his room area. Having a huge dog underfoot is also a lot different than a small one that just hange around easily. At least they are more dog friendly in Israel than they are here in the US....unless they are service dogs, they don't allow them on busses whether you pay or not. The breed also makes a huge difference. The Dog I was foster caring or after the accident that happened outside my house, was part pit bull & part something else.....the strength of the dog was too much for me to handle....I also have a pit bull/chocolate lab that my husband it taking care of because I can't handle her strength.
These are all things to consider before getting a dog....it isn't just about loving them & everything is fine. Loving them is important, but its really sad getting a puppy & then when it grows up, realizing that it's just too much dog for your living situation.
I am sure you will make a wise decision,
Debbie
