Glad your lilly pad didn't need oars.....not that they would work against a hurricane anyway. It is amazing how one never can predict Mother nature....one minute it's heading in one direction...the next, it's going the other way......

I remember my Grandparents in Topeka Kansas when the huge 4 block wide tornado cam sailing over the hill they said it would never come over.....it was heading like a freight train....right for their house....they could see it out the basement windows......then all of a sudden it changed course & ended up going completely through the town. Not good for the town.....but definitely good for them.
