Alittle more about my back ground.
Im now 24 years old but back when I was 18 my now wife got pregnant, now her family is very much church going people. They kinda forced us into marrige, since then my son is 5 years old and we are still married (me and my wife that is ). Since the marrige I have put on around 40kgs in weight and become very unhealthy.
Also in the last 5 years both my mother and father have moved out of town and both my sisters have moved also. I feel some one "alone" but not upset (that I know of). My intake of bad foods is to the point where I have around 2 choc bars aday, 3 cans of fizzy, a pie or two and what ever else I feel like eating. I need to get that sorted. Like what was said in the post above, I think its food and I need to stop treating my body like I am....but like the saying goes..easer said than done.
I also have a case of the lazys, man am I lazy....hahahaha. I needa get over this crap now...before it gets me down even worse.
When I say all this out loud (or type it ) it sounds to me like its all related to food and my lack of exersize Hrmmm.

Hi JimmyJ, welcome to the most fun/interesting/informative, and supportive board on P.C.

(do I give props, or what guys?)
It sounds like you have had a lot of life circumstances (completely understandable) and events from your past that are pretty distressing if you ask me; especially if your family was a good support system for you and now they have moved away.
I am of the strong opinion that antidepressants (AD's) as the first and/or sole method of alleviating depressive symptoms, are inappropriate.
The side effects can be many, and a common side effect of most antidepressants is possible weight gain (along with numerous others). AD's can seldom do the job alone, and are usually only appropriate for certain cases. Why not take the step and make an appointment with a talk therapist (a
psychologist,
not a psychiatrist
) before you begin a trial of AD meds, as it is likely to be unnecessary and premature at this stage.
A psychologist can help you take the necessary steps toward getting physically healthier and lose weight, which medication is incapable of doing for you. Psychologists (or even a licensed therapist with a Master's degree in clinical/counseling psychology) can help by destroying the cause of depressive feelings, not just mask the symptoms. They'll make sure it really is depression (Major Depressive Disorder and/or Dysthymic Disorder), and not something else or that you don't have a comorbid condition complicating matters.
And I agree with the other poster who recommended that you ensure that your GP has ruled out physical causes for your depressive symptoms.
Good luck, and come back and tell us what you decide to do.
