I got the response back from the IRS from the information I sent them this last March. Come to find out, they had lost all that paperwork I had done, so I had to send in the whole package again just over 1 month ago.

They came back with the amount we owe (It was a joint return). They got rid of the money I didn't owe them & the penalties & interest on that, but didn't even respond about the letters I sent them from the Dr's about the mental health conditions of both my Husband & myself. I called about it & they were telling me how they took away the penalties.....told them they didn't do me any favors as that wasn't money I owed them in the first place. There was still a large sum of money that my husband didn't file & he screwed up a large amount on the withholding.

Talked to the advocate & they said I have to send in the form 843 with the Dr's letters for them to get rid of the penalties.....nothing about the interest.....so am worried about that. I can pay the amount I owe for the tax.....I feel that is fair, but given the circumstances.....the interest isn't. So I will be pursuing the letters with the form 843......On top of that, I came across the information about Innocent Spouse Relief. I am reading up on it & going through the IRS site to see more about it, but was wondering if anyone had any personal experience or knows anything about it?

Given that my husband & I are separated, I feel it's his responsibility to pay for his mistake since I am paying for the tax. I feel he is responsible for the withholding mistake also & will make sure that amount is in the separation settlement. I need to protect myself as much as I can from both the IRS & the stupid husband.
