I think it was good that you and hsuband went to pick her up. When I lived at home, my Dad made it clear to me that if I ever got stuck in a bad situation I could call for a ride home no questions asked. I never needed to, but it made me feel better.
Hopefully when she goes away to uni she'll make some new, better friends.
