Aimee,
In high school as a freshman, I lived in the Lord of the Rings, for almost a year. I rewrote part of it to make myself a role in the story. I often "lost" hours of time because I was totally checked out.
I did that because I was desperately unhappy and needed a refuge and the only one I could find was in my own mind - no other escape was available.
Daydreaming is not a bad thing - it is the use of the imagination. Nothing new ever happens without the use of the imagination.
Things become a problem if we can not stop when it is appropriate or important to stop and we keep on.
If this is OCD then they will diagnose that and there are ways to help a person with this. If you are doing it to cope with life then there are ways to help that too.
No matter what else is going on you need to know that you are obviously intelligent, articulate and willing to look at things and seek help for them. These traits will help you with your life. I respect you for looking at the things you face and asking questions. You will be able to work this out.
Feel free to seek support and help here. I do not have OCD, I have DID and PTSD and a few other "quirks" in my life. However, I am also a good listener and encourager. If I can help in any way, please pm me and let me encourage you. I think you are on your way to solutions!
